Who we areKnit Wits On Line Wool and Yarn Shop. To keep up to date with what’s new, become a follower on Julia’s Blog! Sign up for our Newsletter to automatically receive notification of new yarns and news - we promise not to bombard you with emails! - we aim to send out about once a month.
Knit Wits On Line Wool and Yarn Shop is rapidly getting a reputation as one of the foremost wool stockists in the south-west; based in Penzance in the far west of Cornwall it is owned and run by Julia Hopson, also well known for her Guinness World Record Knitting Needles, which are on view in the shop.
Our online wool shop is the culmination of nine months' work trying to copy the wool shop experience as closely as possible on-line. To this end, you can search this site by brand, colour, pattern and yarn weight - just as you can in the shop itself. In addition, our unique "yarn convertor" will convert how many balls of yarn you will need when you want to knit an item in a different yarn to the one specified on the pattern - just as the staff would do in the shop.
When you place an order you will be asked for your card details and delivery address. From this our system calculates your postage and - if you are outside the EU - it deducts the UK VAT (currently 20%). Once it has done this you will see the final payment page and be asked to "Submit Order". Only at this point does the order come through to us. Up until then you can change your order as many times as you like.
We hope you will enjoy our on-line shop and will get the chance to visit us in Penzance in the near future.

knitwits newsCasting Off
It is with great sadness that I have to announce that, after over 30 years of trading - 9 on my watch - Knit Wits in Penzance is closing. As many of you will know, the shop has been on the market for 2 years but the lack of a buyer, both of our boys now having moved onto University and our desire to do something different has brought us to this difficult decision. Should anyone out there have a longing to live in Penzance and own a wool shop then now's your chance to come forward! In the meantime, there are further reductions in the shop and online so snap them up now!! Thank you for your support over the years and a very big thank you to our staff, Marie and Tracey, for their wonderful support over the years.
It Always Happens When You're Away . !
It always happens when you're away ..... We are in Scotland having safely delivered youngest son to Uni and poor Marie has broken her wrist (badly). So, I'm sorry to say that - for this week only - the shop will only be open on Tuesday and Thursday (10am - 4pm) and Saturday from 1.30pm. We asked eldest son (who is manning the fort at home) if he fancied a turn in the shop but he said he wouldn't know how to turn the till on!! Apologies for any inconvenience but I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing Marie a speedy recovery and, in the meantime, you can continue to order online as usual. Thanks!

SOMETHING TO TEMPT EVERYONE!!
TWO New Yarns From Stylecraft!
Stylecraft have recently introduced their new (and first) lace yarn - Senses and a new sparkly AND sequin DK yarn, Stars. Senses is a mohair/acrylic blend and comes with a wide range of patterns from shawls to scarves, sweaters and cardigans - perfect for light summer cover-ups. Stars is sparkly and fun and, again, has a wide range of patterns - including some lovely ones for the young girl(s) in your life! Both are perfect summer knitting!
NEW! Juliet Summer Tweed from Debbie Bliss
Debbie Bliss's new yarn for Summer 2014 is here - and it's gorgeous! I think this is the nicest yarn Debbie has produced for a long time - and the patterns are equally lovely - summer tops, jackets and even a two-piece! Here at Knit Wits, we are very excited about Juliet!
NEW! Summer Print Shades and Patterns from Rico!
Following on from the success of Summer Print last year, Rico have now added new multi-colours and plain colours to this range plus 8 new patterns! This tape yarn is quick and easy to knit up but feels light and airy - perfect for summer tops and over-garments.
NEW! Summer Yarns from Adriafil
We have two lovely new yarns from Italian yarn makers Adriafil for spring/summer: Carioca and Energia. Energia (pictured) is a sparkly cotton blend. Carioca (see picture when you click "read more") is a smooth, silky linen and cotton blend. Both yarns are Aran weight and come with patterns for summer tops. Both yarns are gorgeous!
NEW! Moods and Moods Duet from King Cole
Two lovely new yarns from King Cole - Moods has coloured flecks in it and Moods Duet changes colour subtly. There are 8 patterns with each yarn but, being a standard DK weight, the patterns are interchangeable and it can also be knitted to your favourite DK patterns.
Milano from Debbie Bliss
Milano from Debbie Bliss is new for autumn/winter 2013. It is a gorgeous, textured, tweedy yarn which produces a firm fabric - perfect for jackets and coats as well as warm winter jumpers. I have knitted the Peplum Jacket from her new magazine and can confirm that the yarn is lovely to knit with and equally lovely to wear!
Cotswold Leaves Shawl and Filigran Laceweight
Having knitted Val Turner's Cotswold Leaves Shawl for my Olympic Ravellenic Project last year, I am very pleased that we are now selling the pattern and yarn as a kit! This was my first shawl and I found the pattern straightforward - and the finished shawl is an absolute beauty! Quite possibly the most perfect summer project!
